Go Global! How to Take Your Business Overseas
Going global may seem like a daunting task for many business owners. Having a great product or service is a decent start, but it is not enough to succeed on the international stage today. What businesses still struggle with during their global efforts is to turn their site visitors into loyal customers.
More and more companies are trying their hand at going global. The fact that air cargo demand is still in growth is a testament to that, with retailers shipping their products all over the world, trying to break into a lucrative international market. It is not quite as straightforward as that, however. If you want to go global, there are other things that you need to consider, and that is what we are going to look at in this article.
Understand the Market You Are Trying to Break Into
Doing your research and exploring the opportunities that are potentially available to you is essential before you do anything else. To ensure that your marketing efforts are successful, it is vital to understand the market you are entering. Your products and services may require different marketing strategies, delivery methods and aftercare support in a foreign market, and knowing this before you tap into it is crucial. Always talk to people on the market first to substantiate your assumptions about the nature of the market in that country, so you know whether you are on the right track.
Learn the Language
Translating your website and social media content in different languages is a tremendous asset, as it allows you to reach a much larger audience. If you are not making an effort to learn and trade in the language of the country that you are moving into, people are less likely to want to make a purchase with you. A YouGov survey found that a third of people would be less likely to make an online purchase if the retailer had poor language skills, and one in 10 consumers surveyed would abandon the purchase altogether.
Build Relationships
Going into an international market should be done step by step, as this can be a daunting task. It is important to build trusted relationships with potential clients before you launch in their marketplace so that they know that you are a brand that is both trustworthy and cares about their customers. Visits in person are essential because seeing and talking in person is a lot different from email and other forms of digital communication.
Tailor Your Marketing Strategy
What works well in one place will not necessarily work as well in the next place. Some countries, for example, still prefer traditional advertising methods such as billboards and printed material. Others have fully embraced digital marketing, but even that can differ. It is important that you understand how the target country works and tailor your strategy accordingly.
If you want to branch out into the international market, doing your research is imperative. Find out what opportunities there are for your product or service, the marketing strategies that are used in that area and making an effort to learn the language and culture. Do that, and you have a much higher chance of success.
