How to Make Your Office More Fun
The working world is changing. Whereas the office used to be all about work, work, work, today the boundaries are a little more blurred. Modern workspaces try to create a culture that’s more akin to a lifestyle rather than just getting things done. And there’s a good reason for it: it boosts output.
People are more likely to stay in the office for longer, for starters, and it also makes them happier, which studies have shown equates to greater productivity. So it’s worthwhile looking at injecting your office with a little bit of happiness. But how do you do this? We take a look at a few tried and tested ways below.
Relaxed Areas
A person’s enjoyment of the office goes downhill fast once tiredness sets in. Indeed, you probably know this from your own experience. Have you ever been in a bad mood, but then had a short nap, and suddenly felt on top of the world again? Yupp, it works. As such, one of the best ways to make your business more fun is to ensure that your team is relaxed and capable of having a good time. Setting up a relaxing area that includes comfortable seating, hammocks, and so on will get the ball rolling.
Social Areas
Studies have also shown that people are much more likely to have fun if work if they’re got friends there. Plus, it just makes for a better atmosphere, and collaboration becomes easier, too. But it’s important to remember that people won’t just become good friends when they’re at work — they need the right scenario. So why not look at creating a social area, where people can have lunch and after work drinks together? You’ll find that people are chatting more with one another in no time.
Bring the Fun
If you’ve ever read an article about Silicon Valley offices, then you’ll know that they’re big on fun. It makes people happier, but also gets the blood flowing, which leads to more creative work output. Things like arcade game machines, ping pong tables, and outside areas where people can play frisbee or volleyball will all be much appreciated by your employees. As well as helping to give your staff a relaxing break from work when they need one, it’ll also help with the bonding, too. Who doesn’t make friends over a friendly ping pong competition?
Bringing Pooch
The fun will follow if you have the right energy in the office. One brilliantly easy — and cute — ways to do this is to have a “bring your pet to work” day. People love being at work much more when they have their furry friend by their side.
Adding Decor Style
Finally, have a think about the role that style and decor plays in your office. Fun and cool are intertwined, so look at making your space more modern rather than traditional. Studies have shown that the presentation of the office is increasingly important when it comes to an employee’s enjoyment of their office space.
