4 Things You Must Do Before Outsourcing
Outsourcing can be a good way to save money, get access to highly skilled individuals and save time too. However, if you get it wrong it can end up costing you more time and money, and maybe even your reputation.
With that in mind, here are a few things you should do before you start outsourcing various aspects of your business:
#1: Ensure There Is a Need
Before you outsource a project, make sure there is really a need to do so. Generally speaking, you should consider outsourcing if:
- You need access to a particular skill not available in-house
- You need to save money
- You need to get a job done quickly and there is no possibility of completing it in-house
- You require access to specialist equipment
If none of these things applies, then you should think about whether you really need to go ahead because chances are, outsourcing will not save you time or money or improve your business operations in any meaningful way.
#2: Work Out What You Need
Before you hand off to an outsourced company or freelancer, you need to work out what specifically it is you need from them, for example, if you require a Compliance Revenue Consulting company to ensure you are fully HIPAA Compliance make that clear, or if you want to hire a freelancer writer to improve youtube squeeze page for more conversions, write that down.
When you’re hiring a freelancer, you need to give them a very clear outline of what you expect if you want to get the best results the first time. Knowing what you need and being able to communicate this correctly is, therefore, key.
#3: Do Your Due Diligence
With so many freelancers, consulting companies, and individual consultants, it can be hard to find the best person for the job, but choosing wrong could cost you a whole lot of time, money, and even your company’s reputation. So, before you even think about hiring someone for outsourced work, be sure to check their reviews, read their profiles, check out their portfolios, and where possible request testimonials too.
It is also a good idea to actually have a meeting with them, whether in person or virtually, so you can get the measure of them, see if they really understand the brief, and get a fee for whether you will be able to communicate with them effectively. The last thing you want is to hire someone who you find impossible to work with or who does not have the required level of skills to be of use!
#4: Brief Your Staff
If your employees are going to be working on projects with outsourced employees, then it is important that you brief them on all the steps that will be taken, how they can reach the freelancer or consulting company, and why you have taken this step. This will help your projects to run more smoothly and help to keep employee relations good.
If you want to outsource and you want it to be of any real benefit to your business, be sure to do all of the above first!
