Don’t Glue Your Eyes on the Screen
When a patient is with you for an appointment it can be all too easy to spend more time reading their records and making notes than actually looking at them. Remember that your surgery should be focused on the patient, and this means you should balance the amount of time you look at your patient and the screen.
Look at Your Patients
Make eye contact with your patient to put them at ease. Following on from the point above we need to make sure that we make a patient feel important and give them full attention. You can refer to the records during the conversation but don’t make them the main source of information.
Keep Talking While You Make Notes
When making notes on symptoms on the system it is important that you also carry on communicating with your patient. Make them feel important and be sure that there are no awkward silences.
Show Them the Records While Making Them
A great way to make sure that medical records show the best information possible is to show the patient as you fill out charts and let them contribute to the information or layout. Every patient is different and as such every medical record will need to be tailored to the person. If they ever need to access it for whatever reason it is important that they are able to understand and retain the information they see.
Get Better Software
As technology improves, you don’t want to be left behind with a 20-year-old system that takes 10 years to load anything. Make sure that now and again you check for new medical record software that will make note-taking a breeze. There are tonnes of great application out there so make sure that you use them!
Use a Template
In order to save as much time as you can when creating medical records, it is a good idea for you to use a template. Once you get used to a template you’ll be able to record information in a flash and it will make your office much more productive.
